BANGKOK, Oct 16 (TNA) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will announce its plan to tackle fine dust pollution next week and will implement it on Dec 1.
Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang said he discussed fine dust solutions with representatives from many organizations as the pollution of particulate matter 2.5 micrometers and less in diameter (PM2.5) would normally return from December due to stagnant air.
He met representatives from the Pollution Control Department, the Department of Disease Control, the Department of Health, the Meteorological Department, the Department of Land Transport, the Department of Energy Business, the Department of Industrial Works and the Royal Thai Police Office.
Pol Gen Aswin said that PM2.5 resulted from many factors including vehicles, burning and construction and relevant organizations would implement solutions simultaneously.
Regarding the solutions to be announced next week, the Bangkok governor cited that BMA and traffic police would ban vehicles with six wheels or more from entering inner Bangkok between 6am and 9pm from December to February to reduce vehicle emissions.
BMA spokesman Pongsakorn Kwanmuang said school management would be advised to suspend outdoor activities from December to February and close schools if severe fine dust pollution continues for longer than three days.
Outdoor construction would be suspended during thick PM2.5 conditions, he said.
Dust control measures would also cover the hospitals and hotels that used boilers, he said. (TNA)
