KANCHANABURI, October 6 (TNA) – Thailand’s border provinces have continued tightening Covid-19 prevention measures and sealing off border crossings to prevent novel coronavirus infections from neighbouring countries.
Local authorities in Kanchanaburi have extended border closure for another 14 days, until October 19, amid concerns over the surge in COVID-19 cases in neighbouring Myanmar.
Myanmar recorded nearly 1,300 COVID-19 cases on Monday. Its death toll has risen to 412, the third among ASEAN countries.
Security agencies in Kanchanburi province also responded with strict measures against illegal migrants.
In the past few weeks, Thai officers have arrested dozens of Myanmar nationals for illegal entry in major border trade posts such as Mae Sot, Tak province, and Mae Sai, Chiang Rai.
Meanwhile, authorities have imposed disease control measures at Chong Jom border crossing on the border with Cambodia. No travelers are allowed to cross the border; except cargo trucks which are required to be disinfected. (TNA)
