BANGKOK, September 9 (TNA) – Thai shippers foresee a 10 percent contraction of the country’s exports this year due to the global pandemic.
Thailand’s customs-cleared exports in July fell 11.61 percent year-on-year, according to the Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC).
TNSC chairwoman Ghanyapad Tantipipatpong said that in the first seven months of 2020, Thai exports contracted 8.77 to 4.1 trillion baht as weakening purchasing power and the ailing economies of key trading partners continued.
Ghanyapad forecast a positive outlook for some products such as processed food, frozen chicken and work-from-home-related goods.
The group urged the government to help cutting logistics costs for manufacturers and exporters that had soared 13.6 percent, she said. The TNSC last month asked the government to monitor the exchange rate as the stronger bath making Thai products less competitive. (TNA)
