BANGKOK, July 29 (TNA) – People across Thailand joined a candle-lit celebration marking Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 68th birthday Tuesday night.
Well-wishers led by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha attended the main ceremony at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground just outside the Grand Palace in Bangkok.
Prime Minister Prayut paid respect to the king’s portrait, lit candles and read an oath of allegiance. Then the crowd sang the Royal Anthem as illuminated drones lit up the sky.
His Majesty the King ascended to the throne after his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, passed away on October 13, 2016.
His Majesty’s coronation was held over three days of high pageantry, parades and royal ceremonies in May last year. (TNA)
