SAMUT PRAKAN, Aug 15 (TNA) – Thai police are searching for a lone robber who, disguised in a delivery rider’s uniform, stole gold jewelry worth 8.6 million baht (about $265,000) from a shop in a Samut Prakan shopping mall yesterday evening.
The suspect, wearing a full-face helmet and a rider’s jacket, reportedly made off with 59 gold bracelets weighing a total of 163 baht (approximately 2.4 kilograms).
This morning, investigators from the Bang Bor Police Station reviewed security footage to trace the suspect’s escape route. Police believe the suspect fled along Theparat (Bang Na-Trat) Road toward Chonburi province, and are focusing their search on possible escape routes and connecting side roads.
Police are also investigating whether the suspect is a genuine delivery rider or if the uniform was used as a disguise.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Wichit Boonchinwuttikul, commander of the Samut Prakan Provincial Police, said that witnesses and gold shop employees are being questioned. He urged the public to give police time to work and instructed officers to use a “light-to-heavy” approach if they encounter the armed suspect. – 819 (TNA)
