BANGKOK, June 19 (TNA) – Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has lodged a formal protest with Cambodia following the release of a private audio conversation between the Thai Prime Minister and Cambodia’s Senate President Hun Sen.
The MFA asserts this act violates diplomatic etiquette, international principles, and trust between the two nations.
MFA Spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura stated the action is unacceptable, deeply damaging bilateral ties and efforts towards peaceful resolution. The protest letter, delivered to the Cambodian Ambassador, emphasizes a breach of basic inter-state etiquette and a severe undermining of neighborly trust.
Nikorndej clarified that this is a diplomatic issue between governments, not their peoples. He contrasted Thailand’s measured diplomatic response with Cambodia’s online communication, which he believes aims to incite division. Such actions, he added, defy good neighborly principles and should not be trusted by the international community.
He underscored that this diplomatic action upholds international standards for state relations. Any Prime Minister, as head of government and national leader, deserves respect and honor, and Cambodia’s action demonstrates a lack of respect for Thailand. -819 (TNA)
