BANGKOK, June 19 (TNA) – The Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand (NSPRT) and the Dhamma Army are demanding the Prime Minister’s resignation, staging their protests at Chamai Maruchet Bridge and setting a June 24 deadline to blockade Government House.
NSPRT leader Pichit Chaimongkol stated the groups will stay encamped until the Prime Minister steps down, with a major demonstration planned from June 21-24. If demands aren’t met, they will block Government House entrances to disrupt a cabinet meeting.
The groups accuse the government of being overly lenient and acquiescent to Cambodia’s demands rather than steadfastly protecting Thailand’s interests. They cited an alleged leaked audio clip of a conversation between Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, claiming it clearly shows the Thai Prime Minister’s lack of sincerity in safeguarding national sovereignty. Instead, they allege, her primary concern is retaining her position.
Protesters are calling for all coalition parties to withdraw from the government and for Paetongtarn to apologize to Thailand and resign immediately. -819 (TNA)
