SURIN, June 11 (TNA) – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is visiting Surin province today to monitor the Thai-Cambodian border situation.
She’s accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, and Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Natthapon Nakpanich.
After flying into Buriram, the delegation traveled to Surin. The Prime Minister presided over a meeting at Kab Choeng Hospital. This session aims to review ongoing efforts to de-escalate border-related issues and support measures for residents in the seven provinces bordering Cambodia.
She asked the security sector to coordinate with the border checkpoints to ensure their opening and closing times align with the Cambodian side for trade benefits. This request came after the Governor of Surin Province reported that the checkpoint opens on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, while Cambodia opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 4:00 PM, resulting in only 6 hours of synchronized opening and closing times.
Later, she visited the Suranaree Force base in Kab Choeng to boost troop morale and met locals at the Chong Chom permanent border crossing to discuss the current conditions in the area. The delegation returns to Bangkok this evening. -819 (TNA)
