BANGKOK, May 14 (TNA) – Thailand officially enters the rainy season tomorrow, with the Meteorological Department forecasting widespread rainfall across the country from today until May 17.
Authorities are warning of potential flash floods and overflowing waterways, as several regions have already begun to experience the effects of the intensifying weather.
In Mae Hong Son province, heavy rainfall triggered flash floods from various streams in Ban Sao Hin, Mae Sariang district. Local authorities issued a flood warning and downstream areas are under close monitoring. Residents living along the waterways and those traveling in the area are urged to exercise caution.
The Meteorological Department indicated that the southwest monsoon is gaining strength and will prevail over Thailand from today onwards, coinciding with a low-pressure system in the Andaman Sea. This will result in continuous and widespread rainfall across the nation.
Provinces particularly at risk of accumulated rainfall, potentially leading to flash floods and overflowing rivers, include Tak, Mae Hong Son, the Central region, the Eastern region, and the Andaman coast of the South. -819 (TNA)
