BANGKOK, May 14 (TNA) – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed regret on Tuesday that her father, former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, was unable to travel to Qatar for potential discussions with a figure close to the former U.S. President regarding trade.
Regarding the Criminal Court’s denial of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s request to travel to Qatar to facilitate U.S. negotiations, the Prime Minister stated that it was a regrettable missed opportunity.
She emphasized that Thaksin’s connections, which are close to or potentially include the president himself, and their existing relationship, could have yielded beneficial discussions.
Paetongtarn also addressed ongoing trade negotiations with the United States, stating that Thailand had submitted proposals last week and was awaiting a suitable time for discussions.
Separately, the Prime Minister addressed reports of U.S. visa restrictions on Thai officials following the deportation of Uyghurs. While confirming she was not personally affected, Paetongtarn stated she would need to verify the details concerning other government officials. -819 (TNA)
