YALA, April 28 (TNA) – Suspected insurgents ambushed defense volunteers in Yala and Pattani, southern Thailand, killing two and injuring one in two separate overnight attacks.
Assailants also torched a vehicle and fired on a security outpost.
In Pattani, an unknown number of attackers used firearms to open fire on a vehicle on Sunday night, killing one defense volunteer and critically wounded another.
In Yala, a separate attack early Monday killed one defense volunteer, followed by an assault on an outpost and the burning of the vehicle of the dead volunteer.
Authorities are investigating both incidents, suspecting militants.
Later on Monday, a roadside bomb later injured three border patrol officers in Yala.
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minsiter Phumtham Wechayachai has ordered a more proactive security approach and seeks a progress report within a week on the ongoing southern conflict. -819 (TNA)
