NARATHIWAT, April 22 (TNA) – A bomb outside a police flat in Narathiwat province wounded 10 people on Sunday as suspected insurgents continued a wave of violence in the southern border region.
The evening blast near the Kokkian police station in Muang district left a large crater and damaged nearby buildings and vehicles. Bomb disposal experts found the device, weighing 80 kg and concealed in a cooking gas cylinder, was detonated by a timer. The motorcycle used to carry the bomb was stolen.
Shortly after, in Waeng district of Narathiwat, a gunmen on the back of a motorcycle opened fire on villagers eating in front of a house, injuring seven. Police investigating the scene found M16 rifle casings.
Authorities believe both attacks are the work of suspected insurgents active in Thailand’s Muslim-majority deep south. -819 (TNA)
