BANGKOK, March 10 (TNA) – Thailand has approved the third phase of its digital wallet program, distributing 10,000 baht each to 2.7 million citizens aged 16-20.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Monday chaired the economic stimulus meeting where the 27 billion baht initiative was confirmed.
Deputy PM and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira explained that the program now allows spending at any participating store without restrictions and permits cash withdrawals.
He assured that citizens aged over 20 or working adults will receive payments in future phases, with 150 billion baht already reserved for economic stimulus.
Deputy Minister of Finance Julapun Amornvivat, stated that the transfer of funds to the 16-20 year old age group is a pilot program for the use of digital money because they are proficient in using mobile phones and IT. This group is expected to be effective in using the money to stimulate the economy.
It is anticipated that spending through the digital wallet can begin in late Q2 or early Q3, especially during the school opening period, so students and parents will have money to buy school supplies and spend on various items -819 (TNA)
