MYAWADDY, Feb 17 (TNA) – Liu Zhongyi, China’s Chinese Assistant Public Security Minister traveled to the Myanmar border town of Myawaddy on Monday to meet with Chinese and foreign nationals rescued from a scammer city in Shwe Kokko.
Liu met with Myanmar government officials and representatives from the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF) at their headquarters. Over 300 people, mostly Chinese but also including citizens of Malaysia, Pakistan, India, and Kenya, were present at the BGF facility. They had been rescued from a cyber scam operation in the Shwe Kokko area.
The Chinese official arrived from Mae Sot, crossing the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 1 under heavy security. Thai officials were also present to monitor the situation and prepare for the repatriation process through Thailand. -819 (TNA)
