BANGKOK, Jan 7 (TNA) – Chinese actor Wang Xing Xing has been safely returned to Thailand after a mysterious disappearance that led him across the Thai-Myanmar border.
The 32-year-old actor, appearing visibly weary and with a shaved head, arrived at Police Aviation Division 3 in Bangkok’s Don Mueang area at 7:00 PM on Tuesday. He briefly thanked Thai authorities for their assistance and assured he was safe.
Pol Gen Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, an inspector-general with the Royal Thai Police, who personally flew to Myanmar to negotiate the actor’s return, revealed that Wang had voluntarily crossed into Myanmar through a natural border passage in Mae Sot, Tak province, to an area known for its special economic zone housing casinos and complexes operated by Chinese grey businesses under Karen group supervision.
Investigation showed Wang had hired a taxi for 5,000 baht to take him to the Mae Sot border, passing through three checkpoints where he willingly showed his passport. The case emerged after his brother reported to Shanghai police that he had been deceived into working at the Thai-Myanmar border area.
This appears to be a case of Chinese nationals deceiving fellow Chinese. Wang was lured through WeChat by someone posing as a casting director who falsely claimed to represent GMM GRAMMY, a Thai entertainment company. Police confirmed Wang was unharmed, with what appeared to be injuries actually being birthmarks. -819 (TNA)
