SAMUT PRAKAN, Jan 2 (TNA) – A fire broke out at a synthetic fiber factory in Bang Pu district, Samut Prakan province, early Thursday morning, causing an estimated 20 million baht (approximately $570,000) in damage.
Police received a report of the fire at a factory located in Soi Thetsaban Bang Pu 71/1 in Muang district around 6:00 a.m. Local time.
More than 30 fire trucks from Bang Pu municipality and nearby areas were dispatched to the scene, where they found flames engulfing a warehouse, sending plumes of black smoke into the sky. Firefighters took over three hours to bring the blaze under control.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Wichit Boonchinwuthikul, commander of Samut Prakan Provincial Police, along with officials from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation inspected the site and offered support to the factory owner, who was visibly distressed and reportedly had experienced a previous fire at the facility.
The police commander stated that the factory, a single-story structure comprising five interconnected warehouses on an eight-rai (approximately 3.2 acre) plot of land, produced filling for mattresses and sofas. The fire originated in the fifth warehouse and spread to the fourth before firefighters managed to contain it.
According to the factory owner, the facility had been closed since December 29, 2024, with only security guards present at the time of the incident.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation. Authorities confirmed that there were no injuries or fatalities. -819 (TNA)
