VIENTIANE, Oct 9 (TNA) – Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra today outlined a three-pronged approach to deepening ASEAN cooperation at the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits, held in the Laotian capital Vientiane.
In her address to fellow ASEAN leaders, Paetongtarn emphasized the importance of people-centered ASEAN and highlighted the potential of regional collaboration to address shared challenges and improve the lives of 700 million people.
Thailand, she said, is proposing three key priorities: sustainability, human security, and deeper regional integration.
As ASEAN’s sustainability coordinator, Thailand advocates for collective efforts in addressing climate change, transitioning to clean energy, and promoting a green economy. These actions will ensure that ASEAN’s economic growth is environmentally sustainable.
On human security, she stressed the need for collective action to ensure food, energy, and essential supplies for all ASEAN citizens.
Regarding regional integration, she vowed to expedite the conclusion of free trade agreements with ASEAN’s dialogue partners, particularly as Thailand chairs the negotiating committee.
The ASEAN summits, which commenced today, are expected to discuss a wide range of regional issues, including economic integration, sustainable development, and regional security. – 819 (TNA)
