BANGKOK, June 19 (TNA) – Thailand celebrates historic passage of the Marriage Equality Law with grand ceremony at Government House as Thailand becomes the first Southeast Asian nation to legalize same-sex marriage.
The Government House was transformed into a vibrant celebration ground on Tuesday as Thailand marked a momentous occasion with the passage of the Marriage Equality Bill by the Senate.
The historic event was met with jubilant celebrations across the nation, with LGBTQ+ couples, allies, and supporters gathering to commemorate this groundbreaking step towards equality.
The festivities commenced with a colorful parade joined by government officials, diplomats, and LGBTQ+ couples, all dressed in vibrant hues, marching from Parliament to Government House.
The air was filled with excitement and pride as the procession made its way down “Rainbow Road,” symbolizing the path towards a more inclusive society.
Upon reaching Government House, the crowd was greeted by a grand spectacle organized to honor this landmark achievement. The expansive lawn in front of the Thai Khu Fa Building was transformed into a vibrant hub of activities, reflecting the joy and significance of the occasion.
“Thai history will be recorded, and the world will remember. Thailand was very brave in making the right decision, recognizing human equality. Everyone deserves this. We grandparents feel more excited than we could have imagined, with goosebumps and tears we can’t hold back. We’re not happy for ourselves because we’re old, but we’re happy for the future generations who will live with honor and dignity,” a same-sex unmarried couple, who have been together for more than 30 years said in a heartfelt address.
Representatives from various LGBTQ+ organizations and couples shared their emotional stories and expressed their gratitude for this long-awaited victory. They spoke of the struggles they had faced in the past and the hope that this new law would bring about a brighter future for all.
The event also served as an opportunity for the government to promote Thailand as a welcoming destination for LGBTQ+ couples seeking to get married. Officials highlighted the country’s readiness to host the World Pride event in 2030, showcasing its commitment to inclusivity and diversity.
Amidst the joyous atmosphere, participants had the chance to engage in various activities, including collecting rainbow-colored souvenirs, posing for photos at specially designed photo booths, and participating in workshops promoting equality and acceptance.
