BANGKOK, Sept 22 (TNA) – Bangkok Governor, Chadchart Sittipunt led an executive team from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to personally experience public transportation issues in the city on Car Free Day.
The governor spoke about the Bangkok Car Free 2023 event, which is being held in the capital city under the theme “Obstacles, Opportunities, and the Future” from September 22 to 24, 2023.
On the first day of the event, the Bangkok Governor and his team participated by reducing their use of private cars and instead using public transportation to commute to work.
The key focus of this initiative is to help city officials better understand various transportation challenges so that they can address them more effectively. This includes checking holes or cracks on pavements, understanding the difficulties of crossing roads on foot, evaluating transportation connections, and pinpointing bus service delays.
The information gathered today will be used to develop policies aimed at improving the city’s transportation infrastructure.
Tomorrow, the emphasis will be on “Opportunities,” understanding the challenges, and collectively finding solutions. Volunteers will work alongside district directors to survey routes and input data into Google My Maps, which will later be made public during the culminating event.
The last day of the activities on Sunday is designated as “Future Day.” The participants will jointly announce their goals for the future of Bangkok Car Free, which will take place at Benjakitti Park in the Klong Toey district. Approximately 700 participants, including diplomats from 31 countries, will join this event and utilize various forms of transportation such as walking, cycling and travelling by electric trains, and buses. The event will also include discussions on policies related to reducing private car usage. (TNA)
