PATTANI, Aug 29 (TNA) – Authorities have sealed off entry and exit routes to the site where an ambush and a bombing occurred last night, killing three officials and leaving five others injured.
A group of suspected insurgents planted an explosive and launched an attack on police and defence volunteers in Yarang district while they were on patrol, overseeing the safety of the public.
This led to a confrontation lasting over 30 minutes. Meanwhile, other assailants detonated explosives at electrical poles at three different locations, causing a blackout in the whole town.
As of this morning, authorities are still cordoning off entry and exit routes to the affected area, specifically around the municipal office of Yarang sub-district, to ensure safety. It is feared that attackers might lay additional explosives to harm officers investigating the incident.
Authorities believe that the group had planned this operation to retaliate against officers after some of their members faced pressure from cops or were killed extrajudicially. (TNA)
