BANGKOK, Aug 11 (TNA) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is on the lookout for exceptional talents in the art of cooking “Pad Kaphrao,” inviting contenders to join the race for the title of Thailand’s first-ever “Pad Kaphrao” champion at the “World Kaphrao Thailand Grand Prix 2023.”
This event aims to promote Thai basil stir-fry to an international culinary stage.
The TAT has unveiled the ambitious project “World Kaphrao Thailand Grand Prix 2023,” to promote the iconic food express menu “Pad Kaphrao” dish. The event is set to take place from August 25 to 27 at Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem (Hua Lamphong) in Bangkok, and will showcase the history and culture of this beloved dish in both its traditional and contemporary forms.
Travelers and food enthusiasts alike will have the opportunity to savor the diverse flavors of “Pad Kaphrao” and explore its culinary heritage. The event not only caters to food lovers but also encourages entrepreneurs to explore the potential of this dish, fostering career opportunities and generating income.
The highlight of the event is the “Pad Kaphrao Thailand Championship.” Contestants will compete for the Thai national championship under the theme “Authentic & Beyond”, representing the original Thai stir-fry, and the innovative international category, showcasing modern interpretations of “Pad Kaphrao.” Contestants must utilize at least 50% locally-sourced ingredients and present a dish that reflects Thai identity, including a creatively named plate.
The competition will be divided into regional rounds, culminating in a final showdown among the winners from Thailand’s five major regions and Bangkok. Renowned chefs will assist contestants in creating their unique versions of “Pad Kaphrao.” The ultimate victors will walk away with prizes totaling over 1 million Thai Baht.
The TAT anticipates that “Pad Kaphrao” will achieve widespread recognition and international acceptance similar to other Thai dishes such as “Massaman Curry,” “Tom Yum Goong,” “Pad Thai,” “Khao Soi,” and “Som Tum.”
The event is expected to attract a diverse audience, including local and international food enthusiasts and travelers, with an estimated attendance of no less than 15,000 people over the three-day period, contributing an economic circulation of at least 35 million Thai baht. (TNA)
