BANGKOK, Dec 26 (TNA) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration asked food donors to hand out food in an orderly fashion at specified locations so that they would also really reach homeless people.
Deputy Bangkok governor Sanon Wangsrangboon said the City Hall received complaints that many homeless people slept and waited for food donors on the pavements of Ratchadamnoen Avenue as donors usually stopped over on their vehicles to hand out food there. The practice resulted in disorder and parking violations, he said.
To solve the problem, the Phra Nakhon district office arranged for two food distribution locations and schedules. One is under the Phra Pinklao bridge at noon and the other is on Trok Sakay Road at 6pm.
For a few weeks, officials would give advice to food donors and guide them to the two locations. Later they might take legal action against violators, Mr Sanont said.
At the specified locations, homeless people could receive not only free meals but also accommodations, health services and job opportunities provided by the BMA, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and other organizations including foundations, he said. (TNA)
