BANGKOK, Oct 20 (TNA) – Thailand is ready to attend the 27th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in Egypt on Nov 3-18 and will emphasize its cooperation with efforts to limit global warming to 1.5-2 degrees Celsius, quickly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality sooner.
Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said Thailand complied with the convention and the Paris Agreement by adjusting its Long-Term Low Greenhouse Gas Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) accordingly.
Under the adjusted strategy, Thailand intends to achieve carbon neutrality within 2050, 15 years faster than its previous goal in 2065. Besides, the country aims to realize its net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065, 35 years sooner than its previously set deadline of 2100, and cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 30-40% within 2030.
In COP27 Thailand will state clearly its demand for the transfer of the advanced technology that it still lacks for its climate change fights. The country also needs assistance for its adaptation to climate change. (TNA)
