BANGKOK, Oct 12 (TNA) – The government is imposing measures to control firearms including behavioral criteria for gun owners and campaigning for quick drug rehabilitation to help addicts, according to the prime minister.
After a meeting on measures to control narcotics and firearms, Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, the prime minister and defence minister, said the government would strictly enforce the firearm law especially when it came to gun possession licenses and their extension.
Those who sought permits to possess and use guns must pass mental examination and must not behave dangerously to society. Illegal firearms and their online trade must be suppressed decisively. Relevant organizations were assigned to enforce laws effectively, Gen Prayut said.
“For drug rehabilitation, addicts must be quickly identified and brought to rehabilitation. Screening facilities must be set up quickly in all sub-districts. Units for mental treatment and anti-narcotic affairs must be formed in all districts. All sub-district clinics must offer initial treatment for mentally ill people,” the prime minister said. (TNA)
