BANGKOK, Sept 27 (TNA) – The irrigation chief ordered the installation of 230 more propeller pumps in Chi and Mun river basins to speed up discharges into the Mekong River ahead of the Storm Noru that was expected to reach the country in the morning of Sept 29.
Prapit Chanma, director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department, said that many areas in Mun and Chi river basins were flooded and if the storm brought more rains, inundated areas and river overflows would expand there.
The level of the Mun River was rising. It had not overflowed to Muang district of Ubon Ratchathani yet but water flowed out of sewers and flooded some low-lying areas. The lower Warin Chamrap district was already partially flooded.
The municipal office of Warin Chamrap district set up tents for evacuees from about 12 flooded communities affected by the rising Mun River.
The river also overflowed to another shelter under the Seree Prachathippatai Bridge and evacuees had to leave the refuge. (TNA)
