BANGKOK, Sept 14 (TNA) – Two people were killed in a sergeant major’s shooting spree before he surrendered at Army Training Command this morning.
The sergeant major started shooting at colleagues at the Army War College inside the compound of the Army Training Command in Dusit district at about 9.30am. Two people were killed and another person was injured.
The sergeant major had had an accident and some symptoms from the accident persisted. He appeared stressed, carried his gun at the shooting scene and announced he planned to kill 10 people. Special operations police were sent to the college to control the situation.
Staff of the college shut all its doors to try to confine the gunman while other people were hiding inside the building. A small number of officials were there because commanders, lecturers and other officials went to a seminar in Phetchaburi province to prepare the course that would begin next month.
The sergeant major reportedly suffered mental illness. He had some mental symptoms when the army commander-in-chief was at the Army War College to conclude its previous course last week. Colleagues managed to calm him down then.
The sergeant major already surrendered to police after the shooting. (TNA)
