BANGKOK, June 10 (TNA) – The House of Representatives passed the government’s executive decree for 500-billion-baht borrowing with 270 votes in favor, 196 against, 1 abstention and two no-votes.
The Senate will consider the decree on June 14 and then tell the cabinet to exercise it.
The deliberation of the executive decree started yesterday (June 9). The decree authorizes the Finance Ministry to additionally borrow 500 billion baht to solve economic and social problems resulting from COVID-19.
Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said the government was implementing measures to maintain local consumption as the country could not generate income from tourism that was normally a main source of its revenue. The measures were aimed at creating jobs and distributing income to people and small and medium-sized enterprises.
Assistance had yet to cover all affected parties because COVID-19 outbreaks were continuing, he said. (TNA)
