BANGKOK, March 15 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is delighted that Ong Ang Canal has received an international award for its new and beautiful landscape that improves people’s life.
Deputy government spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul said Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prayut expressed congratulations on the 2020 Asian Townscape Award that the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) presented to Ong Ang Canal.
That proved the success of a project to improve the landscapes of canals in Bangkok and the project would be a model for landscape improvement in other areas of Thailand and in other countries, she said.
The project for Ong Ang Canal served local lifestyles, improved people’s quality of life and had positive impacts on economy, society and cultures, Miss Traisuree said.
The prime minister had followed up the improvement and management of Ong Ang Canal and found that the project created economic benefits and was well accepted. It was the venue of many activities and quickly became a new landmark of Bangkok. Importantly, it proved that the vicinities of other canals could be improved for better living, the deputy government spokesperson said. (TNA)
