BANGKOK, Jan 21 (TNA) – Smog levels surged in most parts
of Bangkok Tuesday morning as city officials continue health protection
campaign for the residents.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reported the
levels of particulate matter 2.5 micrometers in diameter or PM2.5 ranging from
53 to 89 micrograms per cubic meter of air in 35 spots across the capital city.
The government-set safe threshold is 50 micrograms per cubic
meter.
BMA spokesman Pongsakorn Kwanmuang urged residents to
exercise precautions to prevent themselves from the unsafe fine-dust level.
Health office of the BMA had setup health service at 12
communities hit by the worsening air pollution, he said.
The air quality has been worsening due to stagnant air and
smog from industrial plants and heavy traffic.
Unsafe PM2.5 levels are also reported in other provinces where farm
waste burning exacerbated the situation.(TNA)
