BUSAN (SOUTH KOREA), Nov 26 (TNA) – ASEAN and South Korea
have wrapped up the 3rd ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit in Busan,
celebrating the 30th anniversary of the dialogue partnership and setting a
direction for the next 30 years.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in co-chaired the two-day
meeting with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in his capacity of ASEAN
chair this year.
The leaders reviewed the ASEAN-Republic of Korea
relationship that has evolved to a strategic partnership. President Moon reaffirmed South Korea’s
commitment to strengthen ties with the Southeast Asian bloc as part of his
“New Southern Policy.”
Prime Minister Prayut said the relations were characterized
by 3P principles; people, prosperity and peace.
During the Summit, the leaders focused on ways to achieve
co-prosperity and peace, and to work together on common challenges such as
climate change amid elevated worldwide tensions.
President Moon and PM Prayut also witnessed the signings of
three MOUs on education, trade and labor between Thailand and South Korea.
Nine ASEAN leaders also expressed their support for
“peace process” on the Korean Peninsula.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen cancelled his visit to
Korea due to family matter. (TNA)
