BANGKOK, Oct 14 (TNA) — Social Development and Human Security Minister Chuti Krairiksh led his ministerial executives to the United States to learn effective measures to better fight human trafficking.
His delegation including Porametee Vimolsiri, permanent secretary at the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, met Christa Hayden Sharp, regional president for Asia Pacific of the International Justice Mission (IJM), and Brianna Gehring, IJM’s senior program manager for Southeast Asia and Central and Eastern Europe, at the Thai embassy in Washington DC at 2pm on Oct 11.
Mr Chuti said his delegation discussed cooperation with IJM on anti-human trafficking operations and both sides exchanged interesting experiences, case studies and best practices.
IJM was ready to support the Thai government in human resources development and the protection of human-trafficking victims, the minister said.
Earlier his delegation met Nathan A Sales, Under Secretary of State, and John Cotton Richmond, US Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, at the US Department of State.
They discussed anti-human trafficking operations in Thailand and proposals from the US concerning prosecution, protection, assistance and prevention.
Minister Chuti also invited Mr Richmond to visit Thailand to have first-hand experiences on the matters and strengthen bilateral cooperation on combatting human trafficking. (TNA)
