BANGKOK, Sept 2 (TNA) — The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has alerted its personnel in provinces to prepare swift responses to the impacts of a depression in the South China Sea.
Chayapol Thitisak, director-general of the department, said the depression was likely to grow into a tropical storm and reach Hainan island today.
That would cause more rains and possibly flash floods and landslides in the Northeast, on Sept 2 and 3, he said.
“Disaster prevention and mitigation officials in vulnerable provinces will take measures and procedures to cope with disasters and help victims. They will monitor weather conditions around the clock and put rapid movement units on standby for swift assistance,” Mr Chayapol said.
He also said that his department contacted concerned organizations and asked them to keep small boats ashore, prepare marine rescue resources and advise tourists to refrain from all marine activities during the time of rough sea. (TNA)
