BANGKOK, Jan 4(TNA) – The Royal Thai Navy has deployed
its only aircraft carrier to a humanitarian mission for people affected by
Tropical Storm Pabuk.
HTMS Chakri Naruebet has prepared for the mission to provide
assistance to storm-affected southern provinces in the wake of the storm that
made landfall Friday.
Naval officers have loaded relief supplies and other rescue
materials on the ship before leaving a naval base in Sattahip, Chon Buri
province, around noon on Friday.
HTMS Chakri Naruebet will lead the rescue operation
involving two battle ships and two aircrafts.
The fleet is manned with medical staff and equipped with rescue force.
Pabuk, the first tropical storm in the Gulf of Thailand in
decades, made landfall around noon on Friday on the coast of Nakhon Si
Thammarat province.(TNA)
