NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Jan 4 (TNA) – Tropical storm “PABUK” has made landfall over Pak Phanang district, Nakhon Si Thammarat, causing torrential rain, strong winds, floods and blackouts.
The Meteorological department said the storm made landfall at 12.45 p.m. Friday with maximum sustained wind is 75 km/hr.
Waves up to four meters high were seen. Strong winds felled trees, blocking roads and blackouts were reported in Pak Panang and Tha Sala districts.
Pak Panang school have been under one metre of water. School’s roof was blown off and window glass was broken by wind gusts
Heavy rain and high tide triggered flooding in some areas and parts of roads are under 50 cm. to one metres of water.
The met department said the storm is expected to downgrade to be tropical depression and will prevail over Surat Thani soon.
This will affect the South with widespread rainfalls, and torrential downpours are possible much of the area. It warns people should beware of the severe conditions that cause forest runoffs and flash floods. (TNA)
