BANGKOK, Nov 7 (TNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Prajin Juntong expects a new law on marijuana will be completed in February next year and the Government Pharmaceutical Organization will then start producing marijuana products for medical purposes.
ACM Prajin said the National Legislative Assembly’s scrutiny committee was expected to finish its consideration on a bill on marijuana within 90 days. Some concerned parties had earlier proposed such a law on marijuana because marijuana could be used to treat cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, asthma and Parkinson.
He said that the bill would be submitted to the cabinet on Nov 13. According to the bill, the government would control marijuana strains and areas and conditions for its cultivation.
“If marijuana is redefined, it can be applied for medical purposes right away. Regulations of the Public Health Ministry will be adjusted, concerning the sources of marijuana, so that it can be easily used and the Government Pharmaceutical Organization can start producing marijuana for medical purposes,” ACM Prajin said.
Later another law could be passed to permit the use of marijuana for alternative and traditional Thai medicine, he said. (TNA)
