CHIANG MAI, Oct 24 (TNA) – Several days of rainfall caused flash flood in Chiang Mai, Lamphun and Lampang. Hundreds of houses and farmlands have been under water.
Forest runoff has flowed into the Mae Oon stream, passing through San Khampaeng district, overflowing its banks to flood houses and farmlands as high as 50 centimetres in some areas. Hundreds of households have been impacted as they failed to move their belongings to higher ground in time. Local authorities have surveyed the damage to assist flood victims.
In Lamphun, about 300 houses in five districts have been flooded. Baan Mae Sarn in the provincial seat has been hard hit under one meter of water in some areas. Roads have been submerged, making it difficult for travelling.
In Lampang’s Ko Kha district, soldiers administrative officials helped local residents move their belongings to higher ground. About 100 houses have been flooded and a local road has been cut off. Hundreds of animals and pets were swept away by the flash flood. (TNA)
