SAMUT PRAKAN, Oct 10 (TNA) – Thai Airways International (THAI) moved its plane from muddy ground at Suvarnabhumi airport yesterday evening after it slid off the western runway and caused delay to almost 200 flights.
Dalat Asawet, deputy director of Suvarnabhumi airport, said the plane serving flight TG679 and carrying 116 people arrived from Guangzhou at 10.48pm on Oct 8 and slid while landing. Its left landing gear was buried in the mud. A passenger suffered an ankle sprain during the emergency evacuation from the plane.
The incident caused the airport management to close the western runway from 12.30am to 2pm on Oct 9.
Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said the removal of the plane took four hours. The task finished at 2.30pm and the western runway was cleaned and reopened at 5pm. Concerned officials were investigating the incident, he said.
Aeronautical Radio of Thailand said the incident delayed nearly 200 flights. (TNA)
