LOEI, Dec 13 (TNA) – Phu Kradueng National Park has been indefinitely closed starting today after a tourist was killed by a wild elephant.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when a 49-year-old female tourist was attacked and killed by a wild elephant while hiking with a friend on a trail leading to Phen Phop Mai Waterfall.
The elephant, estimated to be between 15 and 20 years old, is believed to have been a lone male in musth.
After careful consideration and to ensure the safety of all visitors, the park authorities have decided to temporarily close the entire national park effective December 13. The park will reopen once the situation has returned to normal.
Approximately 1,000 tourists already on the peak were allowed to remain but were not permitted to engage in any hiking activities and had to leave the park today. Tourists who have made reservations can ask for refund. -819 (TNA)
