BANGKOK, Oct 28 (TNA) – Tens of thousands of Thais lined the banks of the Chao Phraya River on Sunday to witness the grand royal barge procession that showcased Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.
Their Majesties King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida travelled in the royal barge procession, which began at Wasukri Pier and concluded at Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn where His Majesty the King offered the royal Kathin robes to monks.
The vibrant and ornate royal barges, adorned with intricate carvings and gold leaf, slowly made their way along the 4.2-kilometer route, captivating onlookers.
The event featured 52 ornate barges spanning 1,280 meters in length and 90 meters in width, involved 2,399 oarsmen. It followed ancient royal traditions in its formation and execution.
People of all ages had gathered to catch a glimpse of the royal family. Many had brought along cameras and flags, eager to capture the historic moment. When the royal barge carrying Their Majesties the King and Queen came into view, the crowd erupted in cheers and waved their flags.
The organizers of the event had made extensive preparations to ensure a smooth and safe experience for the public. Seating areas were set up along the riverbanks, and large LED screens were installed so that those unable to get a good view of the procession could still watch the event. Volunteers were on hand to provide assistance and information.
Following the procession, many people lingered at the riverbanks, discussing the event and sharing photos on social media. The royal procession was not only a celebration of Thai culture but also a demonstration of the deep-rooted loyalty and affection that the Thai people have for their monarchy. -819 (TNA)
