CHIANG MAI, March 1 (TNA) – Chiang Mai Airport is ready to receive more tourists after the Thai-China visa exemption takes effect on March1.
Both domestic and international terminals at Chiang Mai International Airport are currently bustling with travelers with over 20,000 people visiting Chiang Mai daily.
Among them, nearly 10,000 are foreign tourists, with the majority coming from China, Korea, Taiwan, and Malaysia. Particularly, there are about 2,000 Chinese tourists arriving daily, with a trend expected to rise after the mutual visa waiver. There are now 10 flight routes from China to Chiang Mai.
Wg.Cdr.Ronnakorn Chalermsaenyakorn, Director of Chiang Mai Airport, stated that the airport has plans to accommodate the growth of aviation businesses and is ready to become a regional aviation hub.
Currently, there are 190 flights per day, totaling 50,000 flights per year, with mostly domestic flights accounting for 11 routes and 30% international flights on 17 routes.
Among these, the most flights are from China. Chiang Mai Airport has the capacity to handle 8.5 million passengers per year, but it has already surpassed 10 million passengers annually. – 819 (TNA)
