CHONBURI, Jan 29 (TNA) – A British man attempting a base jumping stunt from the rooftop of the 29-storey condominium met a tragic end when the parachute failed to deploy.
The video clip posted on his Facebook, reveals his passion for extreme sports, particularly base jumping. The final moments captured on the clip show an outpouring of grief from acquaintances and fellow sports enthusiasts, recognizing Odinson as a vibrant influencer in the extreme sports community.
The unforeseen incident occurred on January 27 at a condominium in the Bang Lamung district of Chonburi. Authorities, including local police, arrived at the scene to investigate, finding the lifeless body of Mr. Nathy Odinson, a 33-year-old British national, who had attempted a base jump from the top floor of the 29-storey condominium for content creation. Unfortunately, the parachute malfunctioned, leading to a fatal impact.
According to a statement from his friend named Boy, aged 30, who is still in a state of shock, he had known Odinson for about five months. Boy disclosed that Odinson was an enthusiast of extreme sports, especially base jumping. Prior to the incident, Odinson had invited Boy to join him in a secret ascent to the condo rooftop for a base jumping stunt, a routine activity for them.
Odinson rode a motorbike from an apartment complex around a kilometer away from the condo where the incident occurred. After checking equipment readiness, they began recording a video, with Boy using his mobile phone, while Odison documented from a helmet-mounted camera.
Unfortunately, as Odinson jumped, the parachute failed to function. He collided with a tree before hitting the ground, leading to his death. The key evidence in the case includes the video footage of the parachute failure captured by his friend. After the initial investigation and statement from Boy, the police released him to return home.
Further scrutiny into Odinson’s background revealed that he had been residing in Pattaya with a student visa and was believed to work as a sports photographer specializing in base jumping. – 819 (TNA)
